History Of Edwin House:
Edwin House occupies land formerly belonging to the historic Heavygate Estate, with documented connections to both Lady and Colonel Burgoyne. The original dwelling was constructed in 1853 as a substantial two-up, two-down home, with architectural evidence suggesting that today’s rear elevation once formed the front of the property. Known historically as Hawthorn Cottage, the house was carefully and sympathetically renovated after its purchase in 2005/2006. Following approved planning permission, the owners undertook a full renovation and extension, completed in 2006 - a transformation commemorated in the carved lintel reading 1853–2006. Where possible, original features were retained and imaginatively repurposed. The most notable example is the reclaimed York stone kitchen floor, now integrated into the garden patio and landscaped areas. The home was renamed Edwin House in honour of a former occupant, a nationally recognised pigeon fancier known for his contribution to the showing, racing, and breeding of highquality birds.
Since its renovation, Edwin House has provided a warm, inviting, and sociable environment. The generous living spaces, combined with both indoor and outdoor bar areas, make it a superb setting for entertaining. The seamless flow from the interior to the patio and well maintained garden creates a perfect space for gatherings, celebrations, or peaceful downtime. Set behind wrought iron gates is off road parking for 3/4 cars.
Just down the road, Ruskin Park offers: Expansive grassy areas, a family-friendly play park, a football field. Beautiful views across the city. Excellent walking routes popular with families and dog owners. At the far end of the park sits the well-loved Blake Hotel - featured in the film ‘The Full Monty’ famous for its outstanding real ales and dog friendly atmosphere, the pub is a local favourite.
